After
gaining a lot more fans of the franchise after Avengers, Thor… I mean, the film
with Loki in which happens to have some guy with long blonde hair with a magic
hammer of some sort? Has its sequel.
This is one
of the slight problems with the film. Yes, Tom Hiddleston makes the girls go
wild and whatnot. Yes, some people only watch Thor for Loki. But, it’s called
Thor for a reason. It should be about Thor rather than his more charismatic
‘brother’.
Who am I
kidding? Thor wouldn’t be the film it is without Loki. Without him, it would
just be another superhero film. Such a flawless performance from Tom
Hiddleston, you cannot blame the director for adding more Loki scenes to give
the fans what they want.
Natalie
Portman returns too, with her ‘Oh no I did something bad, save me Thor’
routine. She does pull it off very well. If she could fend for herself a bit
more then she’d be just a bit more bearable.
The standout
performance however, is Kat Dennings as Darcy. Having had quite a minor role in
the first film, Dennings really shines this time around. With cute little quips
and sarcasm left, right and centre, Dennings matches the role perfectly.
The story
really plays out well, even if it does become a bit Star Wars like at times. Not
very often though, so it doesn’t make too much of an impact. With some very
emotional times, it has a lot more depth than the first Thor, and even has a
bit more background to the other villain, Malekith.
There’s
plenty of action from the fight scenes too, with some very humourous moments,
which gives Thor the charm it strives for.
Unfortunately,
there are not many extras on the DVD, just a rather pointless scene involving
Natalie Portman being confused. There’s also a look forward to the new Captain
America.
It’s
definitely a must buy, and I’m sure many are excited to see how this leads on
to the second Avengers film. Or just what happens to Loki.
