The Americans
tried to invade the Brits, but the Brits fought back. The highlight of
the night was definitely Alex Turner’s slurred speech about rock n roll, which
will surely be tattooed on all Monkey’s fans.
The performances
lacked quality, however, the British performers shined, in particular, the Arctic
Monkeys. Performances from Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Pharrell Williams missed the charm that others had brought to the stage. With only three
performances having some energy, the rest were just predictable. The unbilled
performance from Beyoncé was the worst, with hope for a good beat to dance to. Instead, it was
her singing ‘XO’, one of the most boring songs off her latest album.
The surprise of
the night was certainly Ellie Goulding, who gave an energetic number in some
very tight hotpants. There was lots
of fire too. Goulding is used
to smaller gigs so being able to perform that well on an arena stage will prep
her for her arena tour this year. Bastille and
Rudimental did a mash up, which really got the crowd pumped, maybe, if they
weren’t so boring. Big names from
across the pond are usually the ones that steal the show. But on this
night, the Brits ruled.
