5 Better Break-Up Albums than Coldplay

If you like all that conscious uncoupling bullshit that Chris Martin's been hypnotised with by Gwyneth Paltrow, by all means listen to that album that came out where all the songs sound exactly the same with Martin's whining. But if you would rather listen to some better break-up albums, there's plenty below. Although it's never the best topic to cover, it does bring out some absolutely classic albums.

Bon Iver- For Emma, Forever Ago
Lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt over a fair few years formed ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’. This weepy classic was the result of two splits, from his girlfriend and his band. Vernon retreated to a cabin in Wisconsin for 3 months to patch himself up and create this legendarily heartbreaking album.

Fleetwood Mac ‘Rumours’
With all the bed-hopping in Fleetwood Mac, there’d be no surprise if they were dizzy. What it did help was make an absolutely classic album. And the 40 million global sales surely made all the drama worth it.
Standout Track: Songbird

Weep Rating: 3/5

Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’
The album that made her the global star she still is today. Turning the heartbreak from her relationship with current boyfriend at the time, Blake Fielder-Civil into an instant hit of an album that propelled her into stardom was the beauty of ‘Back to Black’.
Standout Track: Love Is A Losing Game

Weep Rating: 3/5

Ryan Adams ‘Heartbreaker’
This creation came about from his break up with Amy Lombardi. ‘Heartbreaker’ was Adams first solo attempt to shake off his previous band and is full of heart-wrenching songs. There’s so much emotion packed into each and every song on the album making it one of the most heartbreaking albums around.
Standout Track: Call Me On Your Way Back Home

Weep Rating: 4/5

Joni Mitchell ‘Blue’
After breaking up with long-term partner Graham Nash, Joni Mitchell wrote most of ‘Blue’ whilst travelling along around Europe, where she then met and fell in love with James Taylor. When he broke it off suddenly soon after, Mitchell was prompted to finish writing the record. This incredibly personal record has been named one of the greatest albums ever made.
