Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds | Single Review

Rihanna’s return to music has been more anticipated than ever before during her two year hiatus, and rightfully so. What do you expect, when the Bajan hit-maker since 2009, for four consecutive years, has released a new album for the worlds consumption. You can’t just suddenly stop and expect everyone to be okay with it Rihanna. IT IS IT NOT OKAY. But at last! The world can resume to normal activities as Rihanna has officially released the first single “FourFiveSeconds” from her new album tentatively titled "R8".

The song which features Kanye West and his seemingly new musical muse, Sir Paul McCartney, is probably not what fans were expecting to hear. “FourFiveSeconds” is a dramatic departure from Rihanna and Kanye’s previous collaborations, as it is an acoustic song with an instant chilled feel to it. Admittedly, it is nice to hear Rihanna on something a little different, but after being away for a while, her comeback single could’ve (should’ve) been a bit better.

Rihannas voice sounds the best it ever has but even that doesn’t save the song from being incredibly dull. In fact it’s only as soon as Kanye West joins the song, it becomes apparent how cute it actually is. As together the pair sings sorrowfully ‘all of my kindness, is taken for weakness’ over McCartney’s acoustic guitar.

Was it worth the wait? No, but that’s maybe due to the fact that it isn’t instantly catchy like all her other previous hits. It might be a grower, only time will tell. But it’ll have do until we get a better offering.
