alt-j - This Is All Yours | Album Review

Following their critically acclaimed debut album "An Awesome Wave" alt-j are back. And proving why they are one of Britain’s most current compelling bands.

Like the world of Narnia, “This Is All Yours” is a magical trip from start to finish, captivating listeners right from the euphoric ‘Intro’ that kicks the inventive record off perfectly.

Alt- J have demonstrated no strain from losing a former band member on ‘This Is All Yours’ following the departure of guitarist Gwil Sainsbury.

In fact the album is bolder than their last, and sounds more like the band coming into their own as indie rock auteurs. Effectively and confidently combining layers over profound and sometimes seductive lyrics and harmonies.

A subtle song sample from Miley Cyrus’ “4x4” unexpectedly works on the albums brilliant lead single “Hunger of The Pine”.

At its worst “This Is All Yours” ventures dangerously close to being unnecessarily odd like strange and not sexy lyric ‘Turn you inside out and lick you like a crisp packet' on the kooky "Every Little Freckle".

At its best "This Is All Yours" is a poetic storytelling journey desired to sooth and relax. An aim that has been achieved on the enchanting stand out track "Choice Kingdom".

Overview: you know when you stay in the bath or shower for ages, then when you get out you’re all sad and cold? Well "This is All Yours" from start to finish will give you a similar feeling.

Recommend Tracks:  Arrival Into Nara, Left Hand Free, Hunger Of The Pine, Choice Kingdom, The Gospel of John Hurt.

8/10
