Remember Carly Rae Jepsen? No? Ok, you might not remember her,
but I’m sure you remember the ridiculously catchy 2012 hit Call Me Maybe. After
three years of no hit songs that managed to match the success of Call Me Maybe,
it seemed that Canadian pop star Carly was doomed to be another one hit wonder.
But no, Carly’s brand new song ‘I Really Like You’ has
proved us all wrong, she’s not just a one hit wonder. I Really Like You has the
most infectious pop chorus since Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off and is really,
really fun.
The formula is the same as any other good pop song, repetition,
and sugary vocals over an 80s styled beat. It’s not inventive but that doesn’t matter,
it does the job.
The video is just as entertaining which features Tom Hank
lip syncing for his life and mastering the choreography, and a random cameo
from fellow Canadian Justin Bieber. As far as pop music videos go, this one ticks all the boxes.
I challenge you after your first listen of I Really Like You
to NOT hum the chorus back to yourself instantly. It’ll be really, really hard not to.
