You may have missed the release of upcoming R&B Princess; Tinashe’s
newest mixtape last week. Not because it wasn’t good or newsworthy, (which it
definetly is) but because Kendrick Lamar released his album To Pimp a Butterfly
a week early and sent the streaming world into a frenzy.
But here at FourPlay we are giving Tinashe and her mixtape ‘Amethyst’
the justice and attention it deserves. One of the gems on Amethyst (get it?) is
the brilliant Looking 4 It produced by Legacy. Starting off with an eerie piano
solo which kind of resembles the Halloween movie soundtrack the song immediately
comes to life when Tinashe declares that she’s been looking for love in all the
wrong places.
With a laidback hip-hop vibe, it’s packed with lots of the
22-year olds personality – without sounding gimmicky. “You ain’t Tupac bitch,
you ain’t Tupac!” Tinashe tells herself after thinking like a poet referring to
Tupac’s film Poetic Justice. Oh, and Looking 4 It gets even better when Tinashe
continually coos “Where’s bae?” on the chorus. Brilliant.
You can listen to the song below AND download the
mixtape here for free.
