Chances are, unless you've been living under a rock for the past week, you may have an inclination of what the latest craze is. Simply look out for people furiously mumbling at their mobile phones and you'll know they're just as hooked as the rest of us are to Flappy Bird. Yes this aggravating little pixel has caused the destruction of many an apple product but why has it taken the world by the storm?
Well first things first this app is free to download which is always a good start to getting something viral quick. However it's the deceiving simplicity that draws every challenger in. You download the app after seeing the endless bragging of your friends thinking well this has got to be easy right? Wrong, so very wrong. After one or two attempts you chalk down your high score of 2 to the fact that you're only getting used to the controls. Then slowly and surely your sanity starts to slip away as these pipes become your worst nightmare. Sure you get a decent high score but every time you get remotely close to overtaking it, you panic and screw it up at the last flap.
The app is so popular it has been downloaded over 50 million times in the past few weeks. The creator of Flappy Birds Nguyen Ha Dong is reportedly earning $50,000 a day from the advertising alone. Yet even he is overwhelmed by the success of the game. With threats of the app being taken down this craze may be pipelined before we even know it.
