Bury Tomorrow @ The Sugarmill, Stoke 21/05/14 | Gig Review

Bury Tomorrow really brought the heat to Stoke's main music venue last week. The Sugarmill welcomed just over two hundred fans into its foundations, whilst eagerly awaiting Bury Tomorrow to grace the stage and cause mayhem. The Southampton band are no strangers to putting on a hardcore performance which can get literally everyone moving along and going berserk and that's exactly what they achieved.

Opening with their single "Man On Fire" which features on newest album, "Runes" the crowd already knew what they were in for. The second that chugging riff echoed around the room, the floor started to open as it welcomed the victims of the circle pit. The venue was sweltering but it didn't prevent anyone from having a great time.

Musically, Bury Tomorrow were on top form and you can truly see a future festival headliner in the making. The crowd were die-hard fans and knew every word to every song, something which was amazing to witness. It was a shame that their set was only twelve songs as they already have a powerful arsenal of songs but they still jam-packed banger after banger in the hour or so they played for.

A personal highlight was their brutal encore performance of "Lionheart" which is a unanimous fan favourite. With circle pits, a wall of death and a mental audience, Bury Tomorrow prove that all you need is a simple stage set and great songs to show just how good a concert can be.

Support came from Napoleon, who I unfortunately missed but heard plenty of good reviews, Demoraliser, who are a metal band from Grimsby which were scarily heavy from start to finish, and the French band Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! who had a lot of fun with their set and got the crowd going with their rendition of "All Star" by Smash Mouth.

If you haven't already listened to it, check out "Runes" and support the UK metal scene as it is thriving every day.

Gig rating:  9/10
