FourPlay Reviews… E3 2014: Sony Press Conference

The big dogs came out to play late at night. And boy, it was a big’un. Sony announced a whole host of new and classic games that will surely please the Playstation players.

Little Big Planet 3
Sackboy returns to Playstation this November with the help of a few friends. Sackboy is joined by 3 other characters that can be played by three other friends who each have their own ability to help them on their quest to the usual random ending. There are also millions of maps ready to play on release, which have more dimensions to them than the previous LBP’s.

Dead Island 2
So many zombie games out at the moment. But the trailer for this was incredibly clever.  One of the best zombie games returns with an exclusive 30 day beta for PS4 owners.  It’s due out in Spring 2015 and will also feature an exclusive character class for the PS4. Filled with over the top characters and diverse locations, the game spans from the Golden Gate Bridge to southern California’s Venice Beach. It looks like it’ll be full of zombie killing fun with the usual wackiness of Dead Island.

Grand Theft Auto V
Undoubtedly, the best news for PC gamers emerged later in the show. GTA V is coming to the PC, and next gen this autumn. There will be a host of enhancements and new details to discover, and it will surely look much prettier than on PS3 or Xbox 360, even though that could be doubtful considering how good it looked on those platforms. Good news for GTA online players too because it will be possible to transfer any online progress from their predecessor and bring it t their next-gen console. Needless to say, the mods for GTA V will be mental on the PC.

Batman Arkham Knight
One word. BATMOBILE! Yes, after 3 Batman games, we’re finally getting a new toy! The finale to the Arkham series also lets Batman loose in Gotham. With a Batmobile. It’s what every Batman fan has ever dreamed. It looks a lot better than Arkham Origins, the worst of the 4, and also has smoother Batman moves. Released some time in 2015, Scarecrow missions will be exclusive to the PS4. Did I mention? Mother-F***ing Batmobile!!

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Nathan Drake’s back! Sony saved the best for last. Little was revealed in the trailer apart from for the detectives among us. SPOILERS He’s married now, (shock). Naughty Dog are aiming for 1080p and 60 frames per second so you can experience Drake in his best rugged self. It’s rumoured that the fourth instalment of Drake’s adventure will revolve around fables pirate treasure. Unfortunately, A Thief’s End may be his last unless they decide on prequels.  Drake returns in 2015 for PS4.

Other announcements made were The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4 finally getting a release date (30th July 2014) , Minecraft is coming to the PS Vita (August 2014), a white PS4 is being released (September 9th 2014), Infamous: Second Son gets a stand alone DLC (August 2014), Diablo 3 is getting The Last of Us clickers, bloaters and stalkers in their Ultimate Evil Edition (August 19th 2014).  YouTube is also coming to the PS4 enabling players to upload video captures of what they’re playing. Also, PS3/4 Disney Infinity players get Hulk exclusively to their Disney team. Mortal Kombat X was also revealed, looking as brutal as ever.

Sony had plenty of games, both independent and big name games, to keep Playstation players happy. It’s definite there will be more reasons to own a PS4 for Christmas this year.
