One of the most highly anticipated events in recent years at
E3 has always been the Ubisoft event. Headed by the girl who used to play Charlie in
Friends, it’s full of fun each time. Thanks to popular titles from Ubisoft, it
was the spotlight event for gaming in the first night of E3 2014.
Far Cry 4
One of the most ‘under the radar’ games in recent years was
Far Cry 3, and one of the best. So Far Cry 4 was a very exciting prospect for
gamers. Unfortunately, all the information that was given was through showing
the first 5 minutes of gameplay, not revealing much. It did, however, showcase
the villain, some weird dictator again, in action for the first time. More was
revealed at the Sony conference later on in the day. The return of the open
world shooter is a very welcome revival after the success of Far Cry 3. The
release date is set for 18th November in North America and 21st
November in Europe.
Tom Clancy's The Division
The Division was also showcased at the conference, through a
cinematic trailer. Even though it revealed background behind the story of the
game, there could have been more gameplay shown like at the previous Microsoft
conference. The co-op gameplay looks immense, but the wifi connection they had
to hear each other so clearly was just too unrealistic.
Assassins Creed Unity
Now what everyone was confused about was the fact that
posters outside the event featured 4 assassins. This was all explained via a
gameplay (finally!) The ‘pro gamer’ showed off the smoother free-running skills
the new assassin, Arno Dorian has adopted. It looks a lot less robotic than
previous games but the fighting remains just as rehearsed as before. The death
sequences very well known among AC players are much more human, with them
actually reacting to them being in the room rather than just standing there and
taking the blade to the heart like normal. What is a new interesting feature is
the opportunity for co-op play in the story mode, hence the 4 different
assassins. It’s unclear whether these other assassins will have a story behind
them like Arno, but it’s a wait and see kind of thing with that. It’s out on
October 28th 2014 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Just Dance 15
Just Dance 15 introduces a very innovative feature, the
ability to download the ‘Just Dance Now’ app, which allows players to dance
with their friends using smartphones. It did cue a very awkward dance of ‘Born
This Way’, which can’t be unseen. An influx of hit songs you can just dance to, with hits from Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding and many more.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Back to normality, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege was
announced out of nowhere. The multiplayer was shown during a hostage situation,
which was very impressive. There are plans to be made as to how to handle the
situation like which windows to go through and which walls to breach. Nothing
on the story however, but release is penned down for 2015.
It seems that Ubisoft are really pushing forward the co-op
play idea in their games. With it seen in Far Cry 4, Assassins Creed Unity and
The Division. If you want them, you’d better get your wifi sorted and some
friends.
After all that Ubisoft announced at their conference, it’s
just a waiting game to see how well the co-op systems work on their games. It
was a very well done conference with plenty to please all kinds of gamers.
