Example - Live Life Living | Album Review

This week's highly anticipated release comes from London's own Example. His fifth album is entitled "Live Life Living" and it seems to be his excuse for releasing a concept album based on "YOLO"... exactly what the world needs right now.

For me, I feel that Example hit his creative peak when he made "Playing in the Shadows" in 2011. Since then, everything has fallen short of his delightful anthems, particularly "Changed The Way You Kiss Me." He seemed to fall off the radar slightly and watched other UK artists surpass him at a time where he should have been sitting proudly on a pedestal.

One thing that Example has nailed on the head is making catchy music. All he essentially needs is a four to the floor beat, a pleasing bass and synth melody and lyrics about relationships or booze. "Live Life Living" shows how Example has grown up and is heavily reminiscing on his teenage past filled with wild antics and the occasional trip to Ibiza. Also he captures the essence of his newly married life and how you can maintain happiness in life no matter how drastic the change in lifestyle.

The album starts off extremely mediocre until it gets to the new single "One More Day." Here we witness a fairly old-school Example showing off his rapping ability, as well as providing a strong hook which would echo around most clubs. I've always felt like Example's best element is his rapping, and I would love to hear more tracks implement this skill, as his singing can often be hit and miss, as well as sounding repetitive.

Example has chosen his single releases very well and "All The Wrong Places" is a strong example, pardon the pun, of intricate instrumentation incorporated with a pumping drum beat. If all the songs were of this standard then Example would be the champion of the dance world.

"Live Life Living" is an improvement on previous album "The Evolution of Man" and certainly has more memorable songs, however the finished product lacks the punch and the flare that Example was once notorious for.

Stand-out tracks on this album include: "One More Day", "10 Million People" and "All The Wrong Places."

Rating: 6 out of 10
