FourPlay's Track of the Week: System Of A Down - Holy Mountains

This week has kicked off perfectly in terms of concert news. American four-piece System Of A Down have announced they are playing a one-off show in London in April 2015, which is the best music news I have heard in a very long time.

They are a band who are renowned for their insane live sets and quirky yet brilliant songs and Holy Mountains is one of my favourites from their back catalogue, yet it is quite overlooked amongst their other songs.

Released in 2005 from their classic album 'Hypnotize', the song is anger-fuelled and directs a full force attack towards the events from the Armenian genocide and the conflict with Turkey. It is not a subject I am knowledgable about, however when listening to Holy Mountains you can hear the passion from lead singer Serj Tankian as they tackle a tricky subject, but turn it into a monster of a song that is accessible for many. The transition from the trippy, almost hallucinogenic sounding guitar intro into the chaotic, heavy riff, backed up by a blasting drum beat and bass accompaniment is awe-inspiring. System have always had a way of captivating their listeners with their unorthodox music and every time I play this song, I end up spending hours replaying all of their older songs as I fall in love with them over and over again. It is a certainty to get tickets for their shows next year and their London date is guaranteed to be a night to remember.
