Better Call Saul- Series Premiere "Uno" | TV Review

With the weight of Breaking Bad on its shoulders, Better Call Saul had to deliver. Did it deliver? In one word. Yes.
Better Call Saul matches the pure pedigree of Breaking Bad and that can most probably be thanking to the series creator, Vince Gilligan.
There was so many ways it could have gone wrong, and Better Call Saul could have just been Gilligan clinging to the beloved universe he created in Breaking Bad.

Lucky for us, it's great. This is a hell of an episode to open with. And the second episode matches that too. So, strong start.
It is a strange change of theme rather than meth, lawyers! It still features one of the most brutal scenes I've seen on TV for a long time.

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that Saul is incredibly reminiscent to Breaking Bad, but while being unique at the same time.
It's Jimmy's story that is getting told here though, the persona of Saul Goodman before he became Saul.
And its Saul's humour that paces the show so well which otherwise would have lacked.
His erratic energy really shows how much they've been able to show his vulnerability at the start of his ill-fated career.

Fans will inevitably recognise the cinematic style adopted from Breaking Bad and the familiar Albuquerque landscape. Familiar faces are soon to surface.
Subtle yet noticeable shifts really provide the distinction between the two series. It is a prequel after all, so there were obviously going to be plenty of similarities.

Can Saul Goodman beat Walter White? No, not really. But he doesn't have to.
All fans want to know is what turned the good will hunting lawyer Jimmy McGill into the ruthless "criminal" lawyer he soon became.
Watching that story unfold will surely be a sight to behold.
8/10
