Enter Shikari - The Mindsweep | Album Review

It's been three years but Enter Shikari have returned with an explosive new album, The Mindsweep. The St. Albans foursome are renowned for their wacky, off kilter music and this album is no exception. Each song sounds different but they are all united by a concurrent theme of politics and anarchy towards the powers that be.

The opening and closing tracks The Appeal and The Mindsweep I and II, demonstrate Shikari's ability to cause pure mayhem and captivate their audience in a way which leaves you unnerved, yet intrigued and wanting to hear more.

It is apparent how much Shikari have matured over the years and this is their most evident example of the band taking that next step up, even with their political lyrics. Anaesthetist is a powerful, no holds barred attack on the privatisation of the NHS, a problem that many Brits listening will take solace in.

Musically, Shikari have never been better. Vocalist Rou Reynolds versatility is outstanding, whether it's the shrieks full of angst in tracks such as Myopia or the soothing vocals in Dear Future Historians. The amalgamation of each member creates a cohesive sound that is like no other act out there.

Stand-out track has to be the first single from The Mindsweep; The Last Garrison. The song is a clear combination of many genres, including the brutality of metal, a disco/four to the floor style chorus and of course Shikari's notorious electro nuances.

Overall Enter Shikari have produced their most consistent album to date, one which they will be proud to see its growing success. Make sure you catch them on their UK tour, as they put on a hell of a show with lasers and utter mayhem. What more do you need?
