Captain America: The Winter Soldier | Movie Review

America! F*** yeah! The return of good’ol Steve Rogers proved to be a smashing blockbuster filled with explosions, plot twists and sexual tension. After the lack of action in ‘The First Avenger’, The Winter Soldier makes up for all that, with action in all the right places.

The latest offering from the Marvel Universe is perhaps one of its most intricately crafted.  For this Cap outing, the story is definitely one of the best superhero plotlines in recent years. With more revealed on the mysterious Black Widow, and the eyepatched Nick Fury, there’s much more depth than expected. There’s also plenty of emotionally gripping scenes too to contrast the intense action.

Mainly, this film is just full of badass badasses. Romanoff, Fury, Agent Hill, Falcon and Captain America all have their time to shine to show just how badass they can be in all their badassery glory. Badass.

Now the villain… The villain is one of the most terrifying villains in years. This is something that most superhero films lack. Being able to create a villain that strikes fear into the audience. The First Avenger had a very scary bad guy, but his highlight was a two-minute montage, rather than the massive bulk of the film this villain got.

The best aspect of The Winter Soldier is just how brave Marvel has been. It has completely shook up the structure of superhero films as we know it, making this film part spy thriller, part character development, part I’m going to cry my eyes out and part oh my god look at all the explosions.

The post-credits scene is well worth staying a bit behind for, with an inside tip as to what to expect from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Scarlett Johansson had some tasteful sideboob action too… (5 stars for sideboob)

Look out for the repurcussions from this film in future Marvel Films, and that Agents of Shield show which is meh to say the least but always seems to get involved somehow. But this film’s a revolution. This summer’s superhero movies have a tough act to follow.
