Unless you’ve been stuck under some cube-shaped rock, you
would at least have heard of Minecraft. And today, the most popular game in the
world right now is officially available on both next-gen consoles.
This has been a long time coming for those with an Xbox One,
who have been eager to experience these pixelated cubes in even higher
definition! However, the truth of the matter is the Xbox One Edition shows only
subtle improvements to the graphics from the 360 version. No doubt, it is a
nice development, but much more could have been done to improve the graphics
before it made the console upgrade.
Another big plug for the Xbox One version was that the map
would be 36 times bigger than the 360 map.
With more opportunities for the creative Minecrafters to do bigger and
more builds, and the adventurer Minecrafters who wanted even more space to
explore, this was a very welcome upgrade. Yet, the increased size of the map is
not incorporated into the gameplay version of the map, meaning your Steve? can
get lost at the boundaries of the map making it very difficult to navigate.
For experienced Xbox Minecrafters, there won’t be much
outstanding change to the gameplay. But for any newbies, whether it be parents
or children, the Xbox One version of Minecraft would be the perfect place to
start any Minecraft journey. There are plenty of tutorials and helpful tips as
you play to get the most out of your game, and actually have some faint idea of
what you’re supposed to be doing. The User Interface has also been improved,
with the crafting table having a simplified crafting system. It’s one of the
very few games that can be accessible to everyone, which makes for the ideal
family game. The co-op is even better too, with enhanced split screen
definition, along with the possibility of joining up with friends online to do
expansive builds, go adventuring or just messing about causing mayhem.
With this Minecraft you can transfer your Xbox 360 maps to
the One to save you from starting from scratch if you have any impressive
builds. Another bonus is that any skin or texture packs you purchased on the
360 can be downloaded for free on the One. There’s also the opportunity to try
out the Halo, Mass Effect and Skyrim Minecraft Worlds for free before you buy.
This will surely please the seasoned Xbox Minecrafters!
Other than all these upgrades, there’s not much different to
the Xbox One version than the Xbox 360 version. But with the enhanced
capabilities of the One, there is so much potential for it to reach a similar
level to the PC version of Minecraft. If the 360 version was anything to go by,
there will be plenty of updates on the way to add even more content and improve
the gameplay even further. For now, whether new or old, Minecrafters should get
mining on the Xbox One Edition.
